About the department

The department of education came into existence in the year 2005 as an elective subject of three years’ General Course. Since the beginning the subject was very popular among the students and considering the increasing demands from the students to introduce honours course, the college authority decide to introduce the same and the dream become a reality in 2011. The subject is really multidisciplinary in nature dealing with Philosophy, Psychology, History, Sociology, Statistics and Technology under same umbrella. It is an area of significant emergence. The faculty members are always aware of this and engaged in raising the same awareness in the students. Departmental seminars, quiz, student interaction etc. are the main features of the department which is trying to enrich itself and escalate academic activities. The number of Education Text and reference book is adequate. The students can avail different kind of books from the college library and departmental library.

LOCATION OF THE DEPARTMENT:

Education Department is located in the Library Building of the college on the fourth floor. The Department has four separate class room. It has a one room which is used for official works.

LIBRARY FACILITY:

There is a central library in the college. The library has a fairly large stock of educational books which cater to the needs of the students intellectual yearning. The department has its own library with some books and plans to make some more books which help in teaching learning process.

Department of Education also provided e-link for class notes from college website.

MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT:

One of the important missions of the Department is to make the students real men of the country enrich them with an intellectual and logical ability for higher knowledge and endure them with inquisitiveness for higher study and value sense and enrich them sound knowledge of teaching and learning. In the changing scenario of globalization, the department has a positive role in teaching the student to enrich them with further studies and encourage them to participate in different academic competition. It is striving to develop the students’ virtuous knowledge, duty in life and coordinating and integrating individual and social aim.

Course Offered

The Department offers undergraduate honours course and undergraduate generic course. The curriculum and syllabus of these courses is under CBCS with the affiliation of Vidyasagar University.

Programmes covered by the department are B.A. (Hons) in Education and B.A (Gen) with one of the subject as Education.

TEACHING LEARNING METHOD:

Mode of Teaching: Class lectures, Board Work, By Slide Projection.

Other Methods: student’s feedback, group discussion, tutorial, internal assessment ( five assessment per academic session for honours students and two assessment per academic session for general (pass) students throughout the academic period are regularly taken to prepare the students for university examination.

Academic Activities: Doing group project work and publishing wall magazine.

Departmental Activities

Activities Conducted by the Department:

  1. Students and faculty participate in the institutional social responsibility programme and extension activities organized by Alumni Association and Extension Committee.
  2. Students participate in co-curricular activities such as painting, photography and other cultural activities.
  3. The department arranges Guardian meeting for developing interpersonal relationship and to solve the problems among the students.

Events and Workshops:

  1. Seminar paper presentation by the students for self learning.
  2. Extension Lectures arranged by the department.
  3. Inter disciplinary lectures to expand the horizon of knowledge.

Prospects:

  1. Higher studies in the reputed Universities and Institutions.
  2. Students may get opportunity for joining the Masters course in Social Work (MSW) and move into the field of humanitarian service.
  3. Occupations for which one can opt are teachers, lecturers, school inspectors, guidance officers, counsellors, educational managers, officers in education department, educational administrators etc.
  4. Students may also join MBA courses after graduation.

Plan of the Department for the Next Five Years:

  1. Department has plans to organize one day students counseling by inviting a renowned psychiatrists involving students, guardians, teachers etc.
  2. Department has plans to extend the library facilities with the addition of relevant books and journals to existing stocks for the assistance of the students.
  3. A Departmental Seminar will be organizing by the department in March 2020.
  4. Department want to organize excursion to supplement theoretical knowledge.
